When our soldiers fought to protect Israel, they did so in formations of combat teams. Now when the focus is healing, the team mission and identity has been a fantastic venue for injured soldiers to help each other in the context of sports.
IN 2009 our members established a Soccer team with a specific goal, to play competitively in an able bodies league, a wonderful metaphor for re-integrating into everyday life. After many hours of dedicated practice our team placed 5th in a tournament of 15 able bodied teams!
Dotan Yarimi, a soldier injured severely in the Gaza Strip in 2009, felt like he had lost everything. Knowing that HFH is about not only helping yourself but the your brother as well.
Dotan remembered how much he loved being in the water and dreamt about his disabled brothers into an enviroment where they could surf or scuba even with the physical deficits they may have. Now in it’s third season, Dotan has personally taken tens of soldiers through his program.
